Worship Defined
Sunday Setlists: August 22nd, 2010
“For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:5-6 ESV)
Each week, we will give you a preview of the music that will shape our time together on Sunday mornings, along with a few links and resources that will help you to sew these songs of faith into your daily life. We look forward to exalting Christ with you this Sunday.
Glorious Day
Lyrics by J. Wilbur Chapman, Music by Michael Bleecker
Jesus accomplished all we need in His perfect life, sacrificial death, and powerful resurrection. It is important for us to rehearse the story line of the Gospel and to know he cleanses us from all unrighteousness and gives us His righteous standing before God, as if it where our own. This redemption story is bigger than facts about days and years, but is also one rooted in history. Jesus really lived, He really died, He really rose again, and He one day return.
“Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He’s coming, O glorious day!”
Come Thou Fount
Lyrics by Robert Robinson, Melody by John Wyeth
As we celebrate God greatness and faithfulness, we know from experience that we are not faithful to Him. We cry out, that He would bind us to Himself, that we might not stray.
“O’ to grace how great a debtor, daily I’m constrained to be
Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to Thee,
Prone to wander, Lord I feel it; prone to leave the God I love
Here’s my heart Lord take and seal it, seal it for Thy courts above”
All I Have is Christ
Music and Lyrics by Jordan Kauflin
God is so good to us and His love and mercy are revealed to us through Christ. When we know that Jesus is the sum of our life, we become fully submitted to Him and to His glory. This is the only way to see ourselves satisfied and to truly love others.
“Hallelujah, All I have is Christ
Hallelujah, Jesus is my life
Now Lord I would be yours alone in this so all might see
The strength to follow your commands could never come from me
O Father use my ransomed life in anyway you choose
And let my song forever be my only boast is you”
Revelation Song
Music and Lyrics by Jennie Lee Riddle
Worship is a continuous outpouring of our hearts to whatever we esteem most. We see that the heavenly scene of worship centers around Jesus, the Lamb who was slain. We continue to see the idols of our hearts shattered by our true king, so that we would not trust in worthless things, but in the One who is worthy to be praised.
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Holy, Holy, is He
Sing a new song, to Him who sits on
Heaven’s Mercy Seat”
Jesus I Come
Lyrics by William Sleeper; Music by Greg Thompson
As we study the book of Exodus, we will see that God is doing an amazing work to redeem His people from slavery of an oppressor. He completed that work in Jesus on the cross for His Church. We we see that our story is a part of His bigger story and ultimately speaks of His power and goodness.
“Out of my bondage, sorrow, and night
Jesus, I come, Jesus, I come
Into Thy freedom, gladness, and light
Jesus, I come to Thee”
See His Love
Music and Lyrics by Tom Lockley & Tim Hughes
1 John 3:16 tells us, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us.” We continue to doubt what He has stated clearly in the cross. Let us be a people that take Him at His word and believe on Him who He sent into the world to save us.
“See His love nailed onto a cross
Perfect and blameless life given as sacrifice
See Him there all in the name of love
Broken yet glorious, all for the sake of us”
