Worship Defined

Sunday Setlists: August 15th, 2010

“For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.” (Hebrews 9:24 ESV)

Each week, we will give you a preview of the music that will shape our time together on Sunday mornings, along with a few links and resources that will help you to sew these songs of faith into your daily life. We look forward to exalting Christ with you this Sunday.

Only Your Blood is Enough

Music and Lyrics by Neil Robins, adapted from hymn by Isaac Watts

We come to God by the means which He has given. The book of Hebrews tells us that blood shed is needed for the forgiveness of our rebellion against God. The sacrifice of Christ on the cross was His life given as the payment for our sins. He is the Mediator between God and man. As we gather together, it is important to voice that He, Jesus, provides the access that we enjoy. Our songs and prayers aren’t acceptable to God without Him.

“No bleeding bird, no bleeding beast No hyssop branch, no priest
No running brook no flood no sea Can wash away this stain from me

Only Your blood is enough to cover my sin
Only Your blood is enough to cover me”

I Need Thee

Lyrics by Annie Hawks; Music by Robert Lowry

Annie Hawks wrote:

“One day as a young wife and mother of 37 years of age, I was busy with my regular house hold tasks. Suddenly, I became so filled with the sense of nearness to the Master that, wondering how one could live with out Him, either in joy or pain, these words, “I Need Thee Every Hour,” were ushered in to my mind, the thought at once taking full possession of me.”

Some years later, after the death of her husband, Hawks wrote:

“I did not understand at first why this hymn had touched the great throbbing heart of humanity. It was not until long after, when the shadow fell over my way, the shadow of a great loss, that I under stood something of the comforting power in the words which I had been permitted to give out to others in my hour of sweet serenity and peace.”

Free

Music and Lyrics by Todd Fields

The good news of the Gospel. Lets sing this one loud!

“Who will free me from this body of death
Who will ransom my heart and give me life
Who will set my feet upon a hope
That will not fade away

Glory to God who gave his son
Glory to God the victory’s won
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, I am free

Glory to God who bore my shame
Glory to God exalt his name
Hallelujah, Hallelujah I am free”

Give Me Faith

Lyrics by Chris Brown, Wade Joye, Mack Brock & London Gatch; music by Chris Brown

The Spirit opens our eyes to the Gospel of Christ and we need Him to fan the flame of faith so that we can believe God and take Him at His word. His declaration to His people through the cross is that He loved us so much that He would give His son.

“Give me faith to trust what you say
That you’re good and your love is great
I’m broken inside, I give you my life”

Majesty

Music and Lyrics by Martin Smith & Stuart Garrard

“Here I am, humbled by your majesty
Covered by your grace so free
Here I am, Covered by the blood of the Lamb

Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands”

Before the Throne

Lyrics by Charitie Bancroft; Melody by Vikki Cook; Arr. by Shane & Shane

I love, love, love this hymn in every variation I have ever heard. The truth proclaimed in it should warm our hearts with the joy of knowing ourselves loved by the Savior and the hope that comes along with it. Praise Him, Jesus, the King of glory and of grace!

“Behold him there the risen Lamb, my perfect, spotless Righteousness,
the great unchangeable I AM, the King of glory and of grace!
One with Himself I cannot die, My soul is purchased by His blood;
My life is hid with Christ on high, with Christ, my Savior and my God
with Christ, my Savior and my God”
