Worship Defined
Sunday Setlists: July 11th, 2010
“Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:54-58 ESV)
Each week, we will give you a preview of the music that will shape our time together on Sunday mornings, along with a few links and resources that will help you to sew these songs of faith into your daily life. We look forward to exalting Christ with you this Sunday.
Rise and Sing
Music and Lyrics by Steve Fee
It should go without saying that the resurrection of Jesus after He was murdered was a big deal. Rising from the grave, He defeated the ultimate equalizer, death, and gives us hope of life after death. Paul says it this way, “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. … But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead.” (1 Corinthians 15:17,20-21 ESV)
Because God shows His power and glory in the resurrection, and gives us the joy of knowing our Savior, we should sing and proclaim the truth of His life, death and resurrection until He returns.
“Our God is risen and reigning and
we’re elevating the glory of our God and king,
Everybody rise and sing”
One Righteous Man
Music and Lyrics by Joel Brown
I love this song for its bold proclamation of the horror of the cross while telling us that it was the Father’s plan from the beginning to reconcile us to Him and deal with our sin. Be sure to check out Joel Brown’s other music and download Red Letter’s album for FREE through noisetrade.com
“Surely up there, our sorrow He bears
See how He shakes, life slowly escapes
The King is crushed, collapsing His lungs
Showering the nations in blood
Yet this is the way His Father has chosen to pay
One righteous Man has many more righteous men made”
Jesus Paid it All
Lyrics by Elvina M. Hall, Music by John T. Grape, Arr. and Tag by Alex Nifong
This song has been sung at Sanctuary since our earliest days worshipping together. We live to “Praise the One, who paid my debt and raised this life up from the dead”
Majesty
Music and Lyrics by Martin Smith and Stuart Garrard
Majesty is a song that humbles us in light of God’s beauty and power, and our brokenness and need. We are set free when we know that He accepts us because of Jesus and gives us new life through His Spirit.
“Majesty, Majesty
Your grace has found me just as I am
Empty handed, but alive in your hands”
In Christ Alone
Music and Lyrics by Stuart Townend and Keith Getty
This week, we reflect on the cross and celebrate communion together, proclaiming Christ’s death and remembering His sacrifice, we will sing “In Christ Alone” to anchor our hearts in the one sure hope that we have. Jesus said it only though Him that we have access to God, and we seek to be humbled of our self righteousness and receive His free gift of grace.
Beautiful the Blood
Music and Lyrics by Steve Fee and Louie Giglio
Jesus, our King, has rescued His people through the cross. Thanks be to God that He is able to save us and free us from the chains of sin and death. He gives us new purpose in life, to proclaim the gospel with our lives and words to ourselves and to the world.
“Now I’ll sing freedom for all of my days
It’s only by the power of the cross I’m raised
The King of Glory rescued me”
