Worship Defined

Sunday Setlists: July 4th, 2010

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:23-25 ESV)

Each week, we will give you a preview of the music that will shape our time together on Sunday mornings, along with a few links and resources that will help you to sew these songs of faith into your daily life. We look forward to exalting Christ with you this Sunday.

Glory to God Forever

Words and Music by Steve Fee and Vicky Beeching

The Westminster Shorter states that “man’s chief end is to glorify God,and to enjoy him forever.” We tend look at our life of faith as one full of obligations, but fail to realize that in reflecting the glory of God and enjoying His beauty and greatness give us the deepest sense of joy and satisfaction.

Creator God you gave me breath so I could praise
Your great and matchless name, all my days, all my days
So let my whole life be a blazing offering
A life that shouts and sings the greatness of the King

Take my life and let it be
All for you and for your glory
Take my life and let it be yours

You Alone Can Rescue

Words and Music by Matt Redman and Jonas Myrin

We need to be continually reminded that we can come to God on our own, no matter how good we might think ourselves to be. Jesus lived the life we couldn’t and died the death we deserve because of our state of disobedience to a holy God. The worst thing we could do when faced with the gift of grace and forgiveness granted through the shed blood of Jesus, is to cling to our pride and claim to be somehow worthy to come on our own. This song celebrate His gift to us and  directs all the praise back to God for His grace and justice.

What Wondrous Love is This

Music and Arr. by Miranda Dodson and Jordan Whitmore;
adapted from hymn by Alexander Means

This hymn is traditionally sung at Good Friday services, focusing on our helpless state and God’s wondrous love towards us in Christ. It is intense both musically and lyrically and drives us to consider Christ’s sacrifice. This new version of the song changes the mood of the original and creates a wonderful response of worship. Austin City Life is a part of the Acts 29 Network and stocked full of great musicians. Their new album is fantastic and certainly worth having, even if you aren’t typically a fan of music in the “worship” genre.

Into the Arms of Jesus

Music and Lyrics by Thad Cockrell

Thad Cockrell is a great musician who is a throw back to old country roots music and his love for the gospel comes through in his writing. His latest album “To Be Loved” is a find and is critically acclaimed by those inside and out side of the church. In this song, he points us the Jesus, Hosanna, whose love for us was displayed on the cross and will never come up short.

Hosanna in the highest
Your love will not fail us, no.
Hosanna in the highest
Your love will not fail us, no.
Your love will not fail us, no.

The Power of the Cross

Music and Lyrics by Keith Getty and Stuart Townend

Any song that is released by the Getty’s is rich with theology and points us back to the great hymns that have served the Church for many years. This new hymn is a powerful declaration of the work of Christ to grant us forgiveness.

Jesus Messiah

Music and Lyrics by Chris Tomlin, Daniel Carson, Jesse Reeves, and Ed Cash

One of Sanctuary’s favorites for along time, “Jesus Messiah” points us to 2 Corinthians 5:21 and our hope in Christ.

He became sin who knew no sin
That we might become His Righteousness
He humbled himself and carried the cross

Jesus Messiah, Name above all names
Blessed Redeemer, Emmanuel
The rescue for sinners, the ransom from Heaven
Jesus Messiah, Lord of all
