Worship Defined
Sunday Setlists: June 20th, 2010
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.” (Ephesians 1:3-6 ESV)
Each week, we will give you a preview of the music that will shape our time together on Sunday mornings, along with a few links and resources that will help you to sew these songs of faith into your daily life. We look forward to exalting Christ with you this Sunday.
Before the Thone
This version by Shane and Shane is a new version of an old hymn that was put to new music by Vikki Cook. The newest version adds the chorus “Hallelujah, Hallelujah, praise the one, risen Son of God.” This new response along with the old text give us a great to respond to the truth presented in the song.
Glorious Day
Check out this video by Michael Bleecker, worship pastor for the Village Church, as he tells the history of this great song. He re-wrote this hymn for his church to sing and it has become a blessing to many other churches. We need more songs like this so we can can sing the truth of what Christ accomplished in His life of ministry and ultimately His death and resurrection, while celebrating the hope of His returning. You can get a studio version here by Jeff Johnson. There is also a slightly different arrangement by Casting Crowns.
You Alone Can Rescue
Passion Conferences have drastically shaped Christian culture over the past decade or so, changing the norm for “worship music” and calling students to live for the glory of God. Recorded for the newest Passion live album, “Awakening”, Matt Redman’s newest song directs us with the basic truth we must all deal with.
“Who, o Lord, could save themselves,
their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea.
Your grace is deeper still.”
How Great is Our God
Our aim in worshipping together is to exalt and celebrate the glory of God and His grace to us in Christ. Jesus is worthy to be praised!
“Name above all Names,
Worthy of all praise,
My heart will say,
How Great is our God”
How Deep the Father’s Love
This week, we will look at the stroy of the prodigal son in Luke 15. Often, we have a fundamental misunderstanding of the Father’s love for His children. We must consistently reassure ourselves of the steadfastness of His love with the means by which He gave us to be assured. The cross of Christ speaks clearly and the Spirit gives us the faith to believe. “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us…” (1 John 3:16)
Beautiful the Blood
The death of Christ at His people hands is a terrible thing to consider. But, the glory of the cross is that God would use this act of rebellion and injustice to fulfill His plans of redemption and reconciliation for His people. Christ submitted to the Father’s will and joyfully went to the cross, so that we could be ransomed and released from the chains of sin.
“Never knew these nails would love unfold
Never knew these wounds would heal my soul
Never seen such beauty and sorrow meet
That the blood of Jesus was bled for me”
