Worship Defined
Weekly Setlists: May 30th, 2010
“Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering zmyriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, a“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” ” -Revelation 5:11-12
Each week, we will give you a preview of the music that will shape our time together on Sunday mornings, along with a few links and resources that will help you to sew these songs of faith into your daily life. We look forward to exalting Christ with you this Sunday.
Revelation Song
This song is purely a response to the glory of God revealed through passages like Ezekiel 1:26-28 and Revelation chapter 4. Many times we come to God to ask for him to intervene or to do something for us, which is good and right. We also need to come to him and simply declare that He is worthy of praise because of His beauty and power. This song helps us do that and centers on the the Lamb who was slain, Jesus.
Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty
Who was, and is, and is to come
With all creation I sing: Praise to the King of Kings!
You are my everything, And I will adore You!
Solid Rock
Originally titled “My Hope is Built”, this classic Hymn written in the 1830′s stands as true today as it did when first written. For an original version, download “Rain City Hymnal” from Mars Hill Church and enjoy new and sometimes surprising renditions of this and other hymns that have stood the test of time
You Alone Can Rescue
Written by Matt Redman, this new tune answers it’s own question about the nature of salvation.
Who, oh Lord, could save themselves,
Their own soul could heal?
Our shame was deeper than the sea
Your grace is deeper still
You can check out this video of Matt Redman playing his new song on television. Of course, we must give a shout out to our good friend Matt Podesla who is now touring with the esteemed Mr. Redman. Matt (Podesla) helped lead worship at Sanctuary in the early days and God is using him to bless people literally around the world.
Jesus Paid It All
We have been doing this song from the beginning and it remains a great help in passionately responding to God’s gift of grace to us through Christ. It starts and ends in such a way as to point us to the source and means of our salvation, not to any strength of our own.
I hear the Savior say, Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness, watch and pray, Find in Me thine all in all.
….
O Praise the one who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
How Deep the Father’s Love
I can still remember the first time I heard this song. The second verse seemed like a punch in the gut that humbled me in an instant. It makes me thankful that Romans 5:10 assures me of His grace and purposes in Christ. “For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.”
Behold the man upon a cross, my sin upon his shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice, call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held him there until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life; I know that it is finished
Our Great God
This week we will end with this song by Fernando Ortega, which directs us to do what we intend to do for the whole of our time together. That is, to magnify the greatness and glory of God in Christ as we sing, speak and consider His truth declared in scripture.
Let every creature in the sea and every flying bird;
Let every mountain, every field and valley of the earth;
Let all the moons and all the stars in all the universe
Sing praises to the living God, who rules them by His word.
