Our Example and Victor

Jesus lived the life you should live. On the cross, he died the death you should die. If he lived and died only as an example, he would be no help to you at all. You would see how to live humbly and how to suffer well, but you would have nothing to make that possible. However, Jesus lived and died and also rose again as your victor. His victory provides the means for us to accomplish the ends of following his example. This is good news! It is a sign of how we’re to come and how he has come and died that we might live.
As you consider the cross of Christ, your objective is to glorify God by becoming like Jesus. The power to do so is the Holy Spirit. The community in which to do so is your church.
